More and more scientific studies suggest that the biomass and abundance of insects have decreased dramatically. Researchers estimate that the abundance of insects have decreased by 45% in nearly two thirds of taxa (beetles, lepidoptera, odonates, hymenoptera etc.) since 1970.
However, it is difficult to know exactly the extent of this loss without credible demographic data. Light trapping has long been known as an effective method for collecting nocturnal insects. But sensor methods, which allow insects to be estimated with high data quantity, quality and resolution, are too slow and expensive.
To address this problem, we would like to build a prototype of MultiLed light trap equipped with a camera to track and count the number of insects and moth species. As a result, we want to provide an open-source tutorial in order to build a light trap monitoring network.
At this time, we are constructing the prototype, but of course we are still open to any proposal or help you could give us!
